Elk River

When I was asked to design a poster for the Six Organs of Admittance show at the Brudenell I instantly wanted to create a screen-print for the event. For the design I had a definite idea that I wanted to create a scene that illustrated the moods within Six Organs' sound palette.

When considering the screen-printed version of the poster, I decided to alter the design slightly by elongating the height of the poster, giving it a more dynamic impact. With regards to the 'empty space' at the top, with this I wanted to reflect the emptiness of Ben Chasny's music, where much of it is stripped back to guitar and voice.

I also decided to change the colour from a pastel-cream to a mint-blue / green. This was mainly because I have a lot of posters with cream / yellow in the palette and fancied a change. So here's a print process of me making the posters, starting with the first screen with the image burned into it and ready for print

The posters sold really well at the gig and are now available in my Big Cartel poster shop. I've also put in the art print version of the design, which is the exact same height and width; just without any of the text.

A Sailor Lost Around The Earth

A few posters to show and tell, the first being for Danish Italian band Valerian Swing.

This was a really quick turnover, which is always nice. Also, always fun to work on anything with a slight nautical slant, which their album 'A Sailor Lost Around The Earth' obviously possesses.

Next up is a poster for the legendary Six Organs of Admittance for his show at everyone's favourite small Northern venue, the Brudenell Social Club.

My brother's solo act umber is playing this show too, so all the more reason to come along and see a great show. I also recently wrote and recorded a song with him in under two hours, which you can hear here.

Fingers crossed I can free up some time to print these, as I think the design is something that would appeal to Six Organs fans and to people who like pastel colours, elks and winding rivers to mystical temples...

And finally my poster for the Art for Blind Records all-dayer at the Temple Works in Leeds.

The design is of the Temple Works in Leeds, where the gig is taking place. The building is grade 1 listed and over the years has been host to a number of gigs, exhibitions, workshops, etc.

Ceolchoirm promises to be an incredible day of DIY goodness, featuring a wealth of awesome punk bands, cheap vegan grub and local cheap drinks. Not much more one could ask for really... Go to the website for details and put it in your diary.

The Impossible Song & Other Songs

Quick update today because it's Friday and things are very busy at twoducksdisco HQ. I thought I would post the new design i've done for Roddy Woomble's solo show at The Brudenell Social Club in April.

Since I designed the poster for Roddy's previous visit to the Brude, I wanted to continue things in a similar vein by creating a stark and minimal poster that echoed his music and Scottish heritage.

Really happy with how the design came out with the palette being so muted and the text being pretty loose. I think i'm just about getting to grips with the Pentel Pocket Brush now and it's especially good for script-like type.
