So last week I got to do some screen-printing for the mighty Leeds post-rock giants that are I Like Trains. This was also my first session at Manchester's Hot Bed Press. Added to the fact that the band went on tour at the weekend and needed the posters delivered by then, the pressure was on...
So to the speedy nature at which the poster was printed, I failed to get any pictures of the acetates, which were burned to the screen, so here is a picture of my mixing the blue, which would be the first colour I printed.
Here is the screen for the first colour, awaiting it's fate... blue!
The first colour printed and drying on the racks.
The second colour printed, which is the lighthouse, ship and tour dates.
The final poster, cropped, signed and numbered and ready to be shipped (no pun intended) to the band.
A detail shot of the lighthouse, searching for the lost ship.
So apologies for not having the most detailed of print processes but the session was more stressful than anticipated. But I am happy with the outcome and I hope you've enjoyed a little insight to the world of screen-printing.
Ta ta.

wonderful. really like the detail of the ship and lighthouse. all the best at hotbedpress - i used to print there! am now considering mirfield but tis bit far out to get to at the moment -two bus journeys.
Nice Cameron, this poster is hugely beautiful! What happened during the printing to cause the stress?
Thanks Deb. Mirfield is fantastic in all honesty and probably worth the journey since Mirfield is only small and the studios easily accessible.
and...
Cheers Jeff. Glad you like the poster. A couple of reasons for stress: 1 - The arm on the print bed had no weight to counter balance, so I had to prop the screen up with a bin after printing and 2 - I ran out of time towards the end and had the classic paint drying too quick problem...
my favourite bit is the lighthouse detail. :-)
Argh, they are already sold out :-(
Will you print new ones? I'd love to get my hands on one of these pretty prints. Great work!
Sold out before iLT made it Frankfurt :(
Please consider this another appeal for a second print run!
Hey thanks everybody. The 2nd print is certainly going to be considered. The band and myself will let you know of any further developments...
Fantastic! :D
Any word on the 2nd print? I would love to get one of these. Amazing poster!
Please do a second print, it's lovely. Still plenty of interest out here!
